A dental emergency can be stressful, but knowing what to do can protect your teeth and ease the pain until you can see a dentist. Here is a quick guide to common dental emergencies.
Knocked-out tooth
If a tooth is knocked out, handle it by the crown (not the root), gently rinse it, and try to place it back in the socket. If you cannot, keep it in milk and see a dentist as soon as possible – time matters.
Toothache
Rinse with warm water and gently floss to remove any trapped food. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gum. If pain persists, contact a dentist, as it may signal infection.
Broken or chipped tooth
Rinse your mouth, save any pieces, and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Book a dental appointment promptly to prevent further damage.
